In addition, Potomac Yard Development, LLC will be constructing the major infrastructure components of Potomac Yard during its initial phase of construction.
Here is a look at the team's transportation commitment:
Monroe Avenue Bridge - the Potomac Yard Development team has proposed to the City of Alexandria that it will construct the entire new, straightened Monroe Avenue Bridge at no cost to the city. This is a commitment that goes beyond the initial Potomac Yard agreement. The new bridge is a key component that can help relieve traffic congestion on Route 1 and the Potomac Yard Development team is committed to moving forward as quickly as possible to build the new bridge.
Potomac Avenue - Potomac Avenue will be a new, four-lane divided roadway that runs the length of the Potomac Yard site between the Potomac Yard Park and the development. The new road will provide an internal means of navigating the Potomac Yard community. The entire Potomac Avenue will be constructed as a part of the initial phase of work at Potomac Yard.
Main Street - Main Street will be the "downtown" street for Potomac Yard by connecting the heart of the retail and office spaces found in the town center with the residential component of the community.
East-West Connector Roads - Potomac Yard is intended to be an extension of the surrounding community. As a part of that extension, the construction of the east-west connector roads during the initial phase of the project is important. The Potomac Yard Development team will be constructing the connections to Howell Avenue, Custis Avenue, Swann Avenue and East Glebe Road.
