Monroe Avenue Detour Information

We will be posting periodic updates on detours or changing traffic patterns associated with the construction of the new Monroe Avenue Bridge.

Please check back regularly to stay updated on the latest construction details and traffic patterns.

**Route 1 will remain open during the entire construction phase.

Current Update:

Potomac Yard Development, LLC and Shirley Contracting, LLC are pleased to announce that construction of the new Route 1/Monroe Avenue Bridge is proceeding to the next phase of construction with the opening of the new span on Sunday, December 2nd.

During the next phase of construction, two-way traffic on Route 1 will be relocated from the old bridge to the new Route 1/Monroe Avenue Bridge span.  The span will include a reversible center lane to accommodate morning and evening rush hour traffic.  Several traffic and pedestrian pattern changes will be taking place with the opening of the new bridge span.  

Route 1 Motorists:

Northbound and Southbound motorists will be utilizing the new span beginning mid-day on Sunday, December 2nd.

Southbound motorists wanting to access Del Ray can turn right on East Glebe Road to left on Commonwealth Avenue to a left on Mount Vernon Avenue OR turn right on Wythe Street to Braddock Road to right on Mount Vernon Avenue.

Northbound motorists wanting to access Del Ray can turn left on either Wythe Street to Braddock Road to right on Mount Vernon Avenue OR turn left on East Glebe Road to left on Commonwealth Avenue to a left on Mount Vernon Avenue.

The Route 1/Monroe Avenue Bridge center reversible lane:

Slaters Lane:

Slaters Lane is open to Northbound Route 1 motorists (it will remain closed to Southbound Route 1 motorists).  Motorists on Slaters Lane will be able to access northbound and southbound Route 1 utilizing the traffic signal at Slaters Lane and Route 1.  The slip ramp from Slaters Lane to Southbound Route 1 will be temporarily closed during this phase of construction.
